Lions and tigers and bears...oh my.
I arrived home this evening to find that a fancy envelope had arrived in the letterbox. Inside was an official invitation to the Queen's garden party at Holyrood Palace next month.
According to the invitation (which I plan to frame, because I'm a right dork), the Lord Chamberlain has been commanded by Her Majesty to invite both me and my beloved (in actuality it is a bizarre perk of my job, but a girl can dream, can't she?)
I've only just learned that I am supposed to wear a hat. You know the ones. They are either massive, like wearing a dyed basket, or tiny and containing a flurry of feathers, like a nuclear duck's nest that has gone through a salad spinner.
Unfortunately no photos are allowed. All the same I'm terribly excited. I wonder how small the sandwiches will be...
Oh Christmas Tree!

hey very interesting blog :) You should check out mine sometime. I saw that you listen to iron & wine.
Oh what fun! You should do it up right. I mean if you have to wear a hat, go for it. The more flamboyant the better. Just think of it as being a costume party. Which I guess, in a sense, it is.
:-) Yeah, what Ellen said.
Doh! Guess you can't sneak a photo, huh? I would so love to see that. Too cool.
OK, a couple suggestions. go barefoot. chew and snap gum, then stick it under the queens table. use the bathroom and then tell the queen she is out of toilet paper. I have more but you won't do it anyway. A wasted opportunity. We don't get to do that cool stuff on this side of the water. ~rick
How exciting!
But you will post a pic of yourself in your hat, won't you?
Who could imagine an event at which hats are required? I love that! (But then, I love hats.)
oh posh or what darlin'? ! and man oh man have i had some laughs at the You Tube version of your camping trip...too funny! thanks for sharing that...xxx j
OH my god! I would love to go to a party like that. I would also be terrified of having bits of food stuck in my teeth. That would totally clash with any good hat.
Who doesn't love a dress up party?
nice to visit you here!
Oh no! I hadn't thought about the bits of food issue. Great, one more thing to worry about...
oh how wonderful! I went (as a perk of my job) a few years ago. Yes, you need a hat and the sandwiches are small but tasty and the tea is very disappointing. it's a totally fascinating event, enjoy it!
