April raw food potluck

Oh it was good. It was very, very good. There are some new people in our group who are very talented at mixing flavours. One couple brought a walnut based pâté that none of us could get enough of.

The same couple brought this amazing cake with a nut base and raw strawberry jam (strawberries blended with some goji berries) and fresh strawberries on top.
More cake came from another new member. Most newbies bring a salad their first time, but she went all out and created a raw chocolate&blueberry cheezecake using cashews. Rich and delicious.
Other treats included:

- Mixed salads with wonderful dressings

-A "stir raw" made with bean sprouts and a thai-inspired sauce, topped with not-fried mushrooms that had been marinated and dehydrated.

-My favourite savoury (besides the pâté): raw nori rolls made with sprouts and mushrooms.

That's it until next month's potluck, but I have the recipe for the pâté so I shall be making that for myself. I'm still going back and forth between eating a high raw diet and falling off the wagon and into the bread basket. The potlucks help to inspire me to try new things, and it's great to meet with people who are so enthusiastic about food.

I admire your sticking to a raw food diet..I think about doing it then my will power fades before I even get started..cooking, or in this case, preparing food is not something I enjoy..although I do like to eat!

That's just the thing -I'm not sticking to it. I'll eat great for a week, then fall all over the chocolate and sugar. Then back on the green juice. Can't ever seem to stay motivated with all the other wonderful cooked food around.

My mouth is watering. I would stick to a raw food diet if only someone else would do the preparation and it turn out looking something like this.

Where are all the great Raw Food Restaurants we so badly need.

Okay you can come and live with me Marie. I'll be the most beautifully bedecked creature in town.

Barry - Edinburgh has no raw food restaurants either, so the potluck is a real treat. But none of us normally prepare food so fancy on a daily basis.

Tammie -thanks for the pate recipe swap!

LV - indeed. And it goood.

Sophia - well get yourself to Scotland and I'll bring you along!

I've come to the conclusion that all or nothing doesn't work, better just to do your best and accept compromises. Since coming here I've given a bit more thought to eating a bit more raw, and we do feel the benefit when we do.

Sorry about your cancelled hols, lovely to see those gorgeous pups and the spring chez-toi. And many thanks for your kind and sensitive comments at mine.

Oh those nuts and strawberries look soooo good.

I would probably go back and forth too. After months of no meat I caved in and had two burgers on one week and felt the effects immediately. Yuck...

That food looks delicious!!!

Lucy so nice to hear from you - I hope you are okay.

Hello Happy! The strawberry jam was the best part - not too sweet but really rich tasting.

Cheryl- Everyone says the trick is to find a balance, but I haven't figured that out yet.

All of it looks delicious! I agree with Barry...if someone else would fix it. I wondered if you were still eating raw foods...good for you..even if you don't do it all the time. Part time is better than no time!!!

Everything looks and sounds delicious. Man. Especially those marinated-dehydrated mushrooms, fascinating! We have a dehydrator too . . .

Your post made me hungry...^^

I agree, there's a lot of recipe ideas that can be learned in potlucks. Time to share the masterpieces.

my friend is on day 16 of a 30 day raw stint. he has lost 11 lbs but NONE of it is muscle loss!
he feels great, and has his girlfriend to "cook" for him, which is the sweetest part, cuz let's face it, if we had chefs working for us, wouldn't we all be eating amazing?

This all looks sooooo good. I am trying to eat as much raw as I can, but I have the same problem...those sweets, they call me! (bread...Let's not even go there!)
I do feel incredibly better when I stick to keeping my food as natural as I can. I have the same problem as Barry...Not much of a cook so I wish there were more places that offered this type of food.

I'm not a big fan of preparing food these days... my partner does most of the cooking.

I would absolutely love to be eating these dishes if someone else was doing the prep :)

Maybe I too could come to live... just next door if that's okay.

thanks for sharing
